After being captured in the Corporate Sector our heroes have each gathered clues that will aid in their departure. With the discovery of a Holocron the Rebels mission is to delivery both the artifact and it’s custodian to their secret rebel base. However the must move quickly or both will be lost to THE GALACTIC EMPIRE. Armed with purpose, and a cake, the new allies gather at the back of the detention block for a secret meeting.
“We have a ship, it’s coming at 12 tomorrow. Once I persuade both the Ring of Gorda and The Tenloss Boys to start a riot to distract all the guards, we should have enough time to get all of our stuff. Time is limited by how long the distraction occupies the guards. No more than 15 minutes”
Corran Costi appears from a cell thought to be unoccupied
‘I couldn’t help but overhear your secret plan to escape" he quips
Before Rebus can strike the Ring of Gorda leader, Roark welcomes the man.
“I’m glad! Because it’s our secret plan to escape. I want you involved”
“Wait, you’re including him in this? Do you actually want him to be a part of it?” asks Rebus
“it’s business Rebus” says Roark.
“Besides he knows and not including him will just make our life hard if he’s not included” states Naraana
“Well this place is impossible to escape. How do you plan to overcome the obvious twenty foot raised catwalk to even get upstairs? Much less get into the vault where your equipment is stored. and once you’re on that ship you think the the warden will just let you leave? This place has turbolasers, a tractor beam array—-”
“So you’re saying you know how to defeat all of those systems?” asks Valara
“Oh not at all. I’ve just seen this attempted many times. No one makes it out” says Corran
“Well i have these talented people. I think each of them can overcome just about all of those issues.” say Roark
“Why are you helping?” asks Naraana.
“Because I want out, obviously” counters Corran
“what do you bring to the table?” asks Rebus
“Well I have an inside man. I can use him to ensure the guards are where they need to be.”
They outline a plan while eating a delicious cake. Before they can attempt an escape they will need to get Naraana’s handmade kit of ports, quick run worms and program tools, all built with a modular interface into her personal datapad. Her personal tools. It would be up to R2-C4 to get them before anything could be in place for them tomorrow.
The droid expels a comlink, which Naraana hides in her uniform as he goes to the kitchen to quickly slice his way to a new droid schedule. Which was great plan, except that the Supervisor Droid has the only access to that list.
The little robot tones his displeasure as he heads through the access tube to Droid Reconditioning. As he arrives up the chute, an inhospitable tunnel of junctions and steam vent, he sabotages the lifting mechanism before notifying with the Meren Data Supervisor Droid, EV-6T7. The droid, who was not programmed for repair chastised R2-C4 before going over to inspect the damage. As the EV droid precariously leans into the open shaft, C4 pushes him into the opening… “by accident”
After quickly reassigning his duties he dutifully moves through the office level, searching for a way to access the vault while cleaning the level at the same time. After a few moments with his flashlight, he spots an access card laying flat on the ground. With some effort, the droid extends his claw and finally get a grip on the card,, securing it! He backs up triumphantly letting out a chirp as he bumps a table, smashing a computer monitor to the ground. arousing the attention of guards in the next room.
“What are you doing over there? Did you make this mess? Bad Droid!” chide the men.
R2-C4 avoids eye contact, whirring submissively. The monitor was too big for him to move and replace.
“You expect us to help you? Bad Droid!”
The guard slaps him on the dome as the men work together to move the equipment out of the room.
The scene wipes Valara and Viv eating dinner and a slice of cake.
“If this cake thing keeps up, I could stay here forever” states Valara
The lunch room is loud, The gangs each moved themselves to a corner of the room, forcing the newcomers to sit in the middle or choose a side. This is the perfect stage for Roark, who uses the position to work the room. He first heads over to Corran who still has not told the gang of his intent to leave.
Both men put on an elaborate show of reconciliation, with an exchange of credits to show Roark’s commitment. Rebus comes over to an advocate of Roark’s new path in life. Corran stops hiding behind a sour demeanor and both men work the gang over together. Setting up their distraction with a dramatic pause and the redirection of attention“Don’t those Black Sun guys look like they’re about to start trouble? Don’t they?”
The timing was perfect as the attention in the room turns towards the gang. The Black Sun becoming defensive, waiting for this attention to turn into a brawl, plays into the con perfectly. Kith the Assassin, their leader, speaks quietly to a small pug-like Chadrafan, and files a blade using a broken tray and the table edge. The room resumes it’s previous state, but the foundation of their escape was laid.
Roark and Corran, both move toward Iaco who sits among his gang, The Tenloss Boys. Together they present a plan to sell Iaco’s upcoming shipment on the open market.. Iaco, the madman, plays dumb until Roark finally admits that he has a plan of escape. Naturally the Tenloss Boys want in on the action in exchange for their silence. All of them.
Hearing this Valara leans toward Naraana “This plan is getting worse all the time.”
Back at the office, the new monitor is finally installed and checked. The guards standing over R2-C4 as he tightens the last cable. The guards then scoot him out of the office, and head back to their quarters.
R2 nearly makes it to Reconditioning before the guard’s door finally hisses shut, muffling their laughter at the clumsy droids expense.. He immediately stop and turns back to the vault access card in hand. Luckily the card belonged to the inventory manager, and allows him entry to the vault. In reality the room is a series of moveable shelves with a safe, even if it is sealed by a thick durasteel door. After locating the right bin, he retrieves Naraana’s slicer gear, along with a few surveillance taggers. The custom gear is comprised a mostly hand made equipment and half written programs that are essential for her to work her magic.
After quickly resetting the room, and keeping the keycard, the droid moved back to the mess hall quickly because he’s late to start washing the dishes.
Armed with equipment a rotation of guards is all that stands between Naraana and system access. Acts as the distraction blocking a guard on patrol, locking eye contact. As the guard tries to move past him, Rebus moves to not allow him to pass. They share an uncomfortable moment, then Rebus takes a step closer. leaning down inches from the smaller guard’s face.
“Perhaps you should lock yourself in a cell. It would be safer.” suggests Rebus
The guard complies, his mind reminding him how much his family needs the support he provides, and complies with the intimidating bounty hunter. As they pass the security office before entering the cellblock the guard makes eye contact with the men inside, his expression one of panic as he continues down the hallway and quietly moves into a cell. Two guards follow them into the block to investigate, leaving the office momentarily empty.
Naraana goes to quick work quickly. She locks open a port and gains access to the system. Her hands move across her equipment deftly, taking quick breaks from typing to eject disks and insert others into her datapad, along with plugging other equipment into the device. She begins muttering to herself, keeping track of the programs running and obvious countermeasures she needs to disable.
Roark, lends a helping hand, and moves to the cell where Roark is now surrounded by three guards, and tensions are high. The guards attempt to quickly calm Rebus, so they can return to work. Roark knows that a fight is the only way to allows Naraana to complete her work.
Naturally the salesman opens his mouth and makes matters worse.
The guard with the wet leg cowers as the brawl starts. Roark slides the door closed blocking the sounds of the guards pained grunts from reaching the dining hall as Rebus lays down his own brand of justice.
Naraana continues to work to allow for a secure path out of the holding area starting at noon tomorrow. The system being designed for the CSA, and not using the normal Imperial countermeasures she anticipated required her to deviate from her original plan. For 12 minutes, starting just past noon the doors on the office level would cycle to open on a repeating pattern. Since she started her slice, the system had become of aware of the intrusion and had committed it’s resources to fight her. She did manage to insert a worm, just as the system sorted out the access point and shorted it’s connection. Stupid computer was tougher than she thought, but once that worm gets where it needs to, she’ll have access to the safe within the vault. She packs everything away back into R2-C4, careful to not leave any evidence of her intrusion into the security office other than the fried computer. Everyone quietly moves back into the mess hall and resumes talking quietly. Their prep work is complete.
As lights out approaches, Rebus has been shackled in a cell designed for solitary confinement for the evening. Roark sports a few new bruises, for his part in the beating of three guards. Naraana sleeps, but not soundly. R2-C4 charges as his innards a stuffed full of equipment. Valara tosses and turns due to an intense dream,
In it she feels the pull of the force. It surrounds her with warmth and leads her to a chosen place of knowledge. In the distance a black dot forms. As it grows in size, a spectral hand rushes toward her. She feels the warmth replaced by a sharp chill as the wraithlike hand grabs her by the throat.
She awakens with startled yell bolting upright covered in sweat
