The lights flicker intermittently as three humans, a burned Twi’lek, and one R2 unit stand against a white wall devided sequentially by lines demarcating height. Loud pops accompany the blinding flash of the holocam leaving them with spots in their eyes. The prisoners, nervously exchange small laughs, avoiding eye contact, unsure of why they’re been detained. The weight of the situation sits on everyone differently, as snippets of conversation can be heard through a door slightly ajar.
“Murder. " Big Bardo " “Black Sun” “searched office” The question of a bounty collection gone wrong, or a bad art deal.
The droid is the first to be separated. A loud thunk heard as the door to the “Droid Locker” slams to the floor.
Interview Reports in Torve Murder Case:
Valara Skye, Calm during inverview. Detailed questioning reveal inconsistencies in the account of how she came into possession of the intricate orb. Assumed stolen, and scanned into evidence. Immediately notified that object is Imperial in origin. Iniquitorious notifies us of value, as the orb and it’s custodian to be acquired by Inquisitor Raith. ETA – 48 Hours
Roark sweating and figiting during interview. Asks repeatedly for water during questioning. Interview questions yield no information, but suspect repeatedly tries to befriend interviewer, even offering a free suite at Twilight Aura Casino in exchange for leniency. Watch with inmate C. Costi, recorders indicate prior history.
Rebus Narcassan – Presented Ragner Syndicate sponsored hunting licnese and would not answer questions. When pressed by the interviewing officer, suspect threatened to “feed the officer his datapad.” File Note: Engage suspect at range, and use of excessive force authorized and encouraged, if needed.
R2-C4 – Droid states skills focus on Food preparation, and references check out. Memory wipe not needed. Restraining bolt outfitted.
The four are moved through a door labeled “CRYO” which opens to the interior of a giant cylindrical room lined with columns of over 1000 frozen inmates. A central arm moved out of the way as the doors open and a bridge extends allowing them to pass into General Population. Exiting the room they are moved to holding by way of an elevated catwalk with guards watching the activity below. Once all four are together , the grated platform is lowered , allowing them into the Mess Hall. As they step off the latticed surface, it rises quickly. All four separate.
The clock ticks as 46 hours remain….
Stars’ End has three main gangs within the population. First is the Black Sun, known associates of Bardo Torve, lead by Kith the Assassin it is obvious that they are notified of the Torves murder, and that these new members are suspected. Some of the members stand in the lunchroom watching them intently and talking with themselves while Kith is outside letting of steam at a benchpress.
The Ring of Gorda owns just under a half of the lunchroom, it’s members all eating together. Corran Costi holds court as Roark manages to avoids notice.
The Tenloss Boys, are sitting together as their leader, Iaco, plays a card game by himself, his pinky finger lodged in his nose. Roark approaches to join him just as a little R2 unit emerges from a small door with a restraining bolt firmly in place.
Headed for the kitchen, currently tended by a 3PO model, who believes he is working in a luxury hotel, often complimenting his guests, maintaining an cheery attitude, not fitting with such defeated accommodations. R2-C4 attempts to talk up the protocol droid who is too busy attending to all the nice guests and states he will be available for conversation in 3 hours. Not willing to wait R2 moves with purpose , taking inventory of the kitchen. During this endeavor ingredients are discovered to form a crude anti-personnel mine. Under the guise of a delicious smelling cake, a secret plan is executed.
Naraana Vrei’s investigations discover computer terminals located in the cell security station and the droid staffed kitchen can be sliced into, once they are not watched. which could take some help from her droid.
In the yard Valara Skye assesses the strength of the security forces. The survey of the yard finds a selection of free weights, a sportball court, both occupied by The Black Sun. Witnessing two lesser punks get into a small scrap leading to a tremendous amount of attention from the guards. Ten of the twelve move outside to handle the situation under shouted orders from Sargent Breil. The response to these events could prove a useful distraction later….
Roark works hard to build rapport with Iaco, though manages only to grate on the man’s patience with a winning hand of Sabaac. In an attempt to keep Iaco’s interest, Roarke shifts the discussion to contraband in the prison, noting that overhead couldn’t possibly make it worth the hassle without the right help.
“Who doesn’t like money? I love money, I’m good at making it, and I can help you make more money” quips Roark
“I love money, it’s great!” chimes Naraana from behind Iaco
“You have officially got my interest” sneers Iaco
Roarke presenting plans leaning in toward Iaco as a tray clatters to the floor at another table.
“ROARKE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!?”
Corran Costi, closes the distance between the two in an attempt fulfill a pact sworn a year ago. The Tenloss Boys prepare to watch the salesman get battered Costi’s raised fist. Contact is never made.
A moment earlier the still silent Rebus moves inside room and flanks Corran seizing his wrist and prying his pinkie back to the breaking point. Looking eyes with the Black Sun gangster, Rebus made his intentions very clear with only a raise eyebrow.
“I think you should go so something else” states the bounty hunter
“Maybe I should go do something else” whimpers Corran
The scrawny blonde retreats to his group, wrapping his cape around his hand as the gang prepares for action. Moving though them, he ushers them outside, defeated.
“See I already got guys on my payroll, you can be the next” Roark offers
“Are you still trying to make the deal after all that?” asks Rebus
“I’m always trying to make a deal.” quips Roark “Iaco, what do you say”
This was what Roark referred to as closing a deal after demonstrating value.
As a few seconds of silence pass, Iaco offers a test in good faith. The next day there will be a ship landing, with contraband aboard. Iaco will give access of the goods directly to Roark, in exchange a financial return that makes him happy. If Roark doesn’t deliver as promised, Iaco will task the Ring of Gorda to collect the difference out of his hide.
Back in the kitchen R2-C4 discovers terminal port that is long broken. With the cake in the oven and his mine needing to set before it was safe to assemble, he had some time to tinker.
After a flurry of motion from his tools, and some quick welding, the port spins to life. Satisfied, he inserts the mating plug into the port introducing himself to the STARS END COMPUTER SYSTEM. The simple system asks how it can help and immediately misunderstands the request for security access. Instead starting a tutorial on office door maintenance, and emergency operation guidelines along with a visual overview of panel locations and proper operation.
Undaunted by the misstep he slices into access to the prisoner inventory locating everyone’s equipment and vital information. The orb is nothing other than a holographic chronicle, the learning tool of the Jedi. Intimately understanding the importance of this information, he quickly seeks out his partner, Naraana Vrei. The cake still needs more time before he can set it out to cool anyway.
“Hello R2-C4. How do you find the kitchen?” asks Naraana
In an excited flurry of beeps and boops R2 tells the Twi’lek everything. The location of their items, Holocron, the nature of such an artifact, and the attention is has risen within the Empire. Only taking a momentary break to break into the intricacies of cake preparation, to avoid the suspicion of Sargent Breil as he passed by.
Now a plan to escape must be formed by dinner. Preparations can then be detailed over some delicious cake.
