Valara is awakened with a start. Taking a moment to shake off the feeling of dread that passed through her from the nightmare.
As her breathing slows she became acutely aware that she is not alone. Kith the Assassin stands beside her bed, looking down on her. She engaged the terrifying Zabrak in the most inoffensive way possible, to reduce the chance of early death.
“Hey Buddy” she quips.
The Zabrak avoided engaging her call and response, instead positing a question.
“Who is Jacob?”
Valara’s flustered response indicated how deeply personal the question while not answering it.
“I have no idea where that name could have come from. I’ve known a lot of people in my travels, so it could have been anyone… that’s weird”
Both ladies avoid eye contact, the moment to passed.
“Before you start calling for help, I’m not here to kill you. I need your assistance. More importantly someone else does.” says Kith the Assassin.
Kith the Assassin then steps to her left revealing an older Chadra-Fan, who’s name is later to be Yem Tandar. His breathing is now apparent. The congested wheeze is slow, as he cleared his throat every few moments. His voice is somewhat hoarse as a result of this labored breathing. His demeanor is older and full of wisdom.
“I am sorry it has taken so long for us to finally meet. I felt your presence as soon as you arrived, but I had to wait for the best time. I am sure you’ve also felt the… cold approaching… getting stronger” he offers
“Is that what you call it? The cold” asks Valara
“It’s presence has become much stronger in the last day or so. It often indicates when it’s time to leave a place.”
The Zabrak took over the conversation with Valara, divulging her awareness of of the intention to escape Stars End and her desire to be included. She offered highly valuable information in exchange for passage for herself and her ChadraFan associate. Awaiting Valara’s assurance of help before she revealed anything helpful.
Valara considered her options and agreed to aid the two.
Kith the Assassin quickly outlined her discoveries, and explained that she was contacted to kill Warden Both for The Black Sun. She would need to do this before she could escape, but it would require Valara to help the older alien during the attempt. She then revealed Iaco’s intention to betray both Roark and Corran. She had intel that he had made a deal with Sargent Breil that would hinder everyone greatly.
Transition to noon the next day…
R2-C4, Valara, Naraana, Rebus, Roark, and Corran secretly finalized the last minute roster change, and other important details over the long morning. A calmness settled over everyone but Roark, who’s history with The Black Sun hatched yet another smaller plan.
Iaco delivered the news that The Pecunia, a YT-1210 transport ship, had finally made it to the station and would begin cargo transfer. The time had finally arrived…
“Ok, get your guys into position. Once the fighting starts, lets see if we can slow ”/characters/iaco" class=“wiki-content-link”>Iaco down, and also take out that Black Sun leader. She’s going to complicate things for us later. Ttust me"
“Oh. Ok. Maybe not. A tray? Ok. Well when things get crazy, just stay by me. Just like the old days” assured Roark
Corran raised an eyebrow. “Any time things get crazy, and I’ve done that, I’ve regretted it”
“You won’t regret it this time. I promise you. I can make you that promise. Now let me get everyone into position and we’ll get this thing started” assured Roark.
The guards are all at their usual stations, on aware of what’s about to happen. The Black Sun have had control of the Yard, up to their usual activities, playing sportball and lifiting weights. The Ring of Gorda are spread around both the mess hall and the yard, with instructions to look completely normal. The Tenloss Boys, have kept themselves as close to the elevator as they can muster without drawing attention, the whole pack full of nervous energy.
“Just tell me when it’s time” responds Iaco
A calm settled over the room for a moment, a pregnant pause before the orchestra of violence struck its first notes.
Most of the Ring of the Gorda slowly moved around the Black Sun. The Black Sun being backed into a corner and defensively aware of the impending combat, but unsure of when to strike because Kith the Assassin no longer seemed near them. The Tenloss Boys kept their position in the Mess Hall.
Then it happens. An exchange of words escalated to an exchange of blows. Just as Valara witnessed a day ago, the response is swift from the guards. They rappelled from their elevated positions to deal with the problem directly. It did little to calm the storm, as 4 guards grew to the double digits before they could hope to disband the fight with their Stun Sticks. They are overwhelmed as the brawl escalated evenwith the majority of the guards engaged.
The distraction is perfect. Everyone not fighting moved as far away as they could… Right under the elevator.
“Where is he?!” asked Corran
Roark could only boast “See ”/characters/corran-costi" class=“wiki-content-link”>Corran, this is why you let me do the talking"
Alternatives are quickly discussed, and a plan enacted. Valara suggested that Rebus help her attempt to jump the vertical gap to the controls. The bounty hunter, while the strongest among them doubted he can offer much to help her close such an impossible distance. R2-C4 quickly began his own long journey through Droid Reconditioning to also get to the controls as a failsafe. As the droid disappeared through the slot in the wall Valara moved to he far end of the table closest to the lift. Rebus braced his body, webbing his fingers so she has a foothold as he boosted her into the air.
Fear overtook Valara as she ran, her calm demeanor fractured with unease. She planted her foot securely and jumped the full distance in a powerful display before Rebus could even move. With a dramatic landing at the controls She quickly released the lift, which lowered to the floor.
R2-C4 movs through the Droid Reconditioning, buzzing past EV-6T7, as he raised his one remaining functioning arm in protest. Before he vocate his displeasure R2-C4 moved into the hall, his head swiveling to see if Valara landed on the catwalk. He continued to the office noting that it had been over two decades since he witnessed such a feat.
The elevator platform lowers with a clang. Rebus swiftly attempting to block the mob of Tenloss Boys from overtaking the platform. In effort to stop them, Rebus pushes the mob of addicts and gangsters, but they quickly move around him onto the platform. The maneuver does buy Naraana, Corran, Iaco, and Roark enough time to board first, at Rebus’s expense. As they are about to rise in the air, Yem Tandar tugs on the pant-leg of one gangster.
“Excuse me, but I believe you are in my spot.” stated the ChadraFan.
The gangster realizing that this spot was reserved, quickly apologizes, and moved back into crowd, allowing the small creature to take his place. Iaco stared at the thug in disbelief at the out of character exchange. As the platform rose, Roark surveyed the room to see that Kith the Assassin had disappeared.
Everyone split up to achieve their own goals simultaneously. Roark ordered the few accompanying Tenloss Boys to secure the Vault and they complied before Iaco could protest. Valara was on her way to the tractor control, as she scrambled down the hall as fast as possible. Naraana waited a moment to collect Rebus, knowing she’d need his help.
R2-C4 heard the others about to join him as he moved through the office. He dodged desks and chairs on a predetermined course toward the vault door, arriving to find the large door already ajar.
With amazing speed, Valara moved into Power Control without the notice of the technicians at their stations. She made her way quickly across the catwalk and toward the first set of controls, carefully shadowing two men going over readouts on a datapad. The room is filled with the hum of the various systems as she made her way to the first set of controls, gently pulling the determined levers. The tone generated by the giant machines lowers in pitch slightly, but does not draw the attention of anyone operating within the bottomless chamber.
Rebus, fought the remaining six Tenloss boys as the platform lowered besid him. The fight naturally moved to the lift with everyone vying for freedom. Once the lift rose into the air, Rebus lets out a right hook which connects with the jaw of one thug crashing through the table and knocking him unconscious. Naraana moved quickly through CRYO, stopping on the far end of the extended bridge at the controls. Once the lift locked into place the fight continued onto the narrow bridge, that hung over the chasm of caskets. with Rebus deflecting the gang’s melee assault as they used improvised truncheons fashioned from chair legs.
“JUMP!” commanded Naraana as the battle reached the middle of the chamber.
Rebus rolled away from an incoming attack, and lept toward the Twi’lek as her blue hand slams the command console. The bridge retracted instantly as a robotic arm moved through the previously occupied space, to collect frozen inmate she has selected. The thugs let out a familiar scream as they fell below.. The large bounty hunter gripped the ledge with the tips of his fingers.
Roark Iaco and Corran quickly move into the Hanger Bay as Yem Tandar follows them, wheezing and coughing. The smaller creature quite unable to maintain speed with his new allies. The ship’s crew stop their work with the sight of these approaching prisoners. Roark, obviously, introduces them.
“Gentleman, My name is ”/characters/roark" class=“wiki-content-link”>Roark and boy do I have a unique opportunity for you fellows! As the president of Trans-Hydian Shipping Company, I am always on the lookout for new talent. We are explosively expanding our operation and need gents like yourselves to help us grow!"
The exact origin of the Trans-Hydian Shipping Company was believed to have started in that very moment, as the words were spoken to these smugglers.
Handing them each a few credits he continued “Consider these few chits to be an opening investment. As your new boss, I can assure you there are plenty more to come!”
“What are you going to do about our old boss?” he asked
As Roark tried to explain the nature of their relationship Iaco took the opportunity to pull a blaster on Corran and Roark. motioning for them to move away from the ship. His expression became unfocused and manic now that he had the upper hand.“We’re not partners, now move over here” he demanded.
“Hold it here, hold it here. You want off here. I want off here. Lets make a deal” offered Roark
“No deals” Iaco countered, ’You talk a lot! This is my prison! My guards! My deals! I admit it. You and fancy pants got me on that gankplank. I made it the rest of the way on my own."
“I made it the rest of the way on my own, you know how stupid you soun—-”challenged Roark
“DON’T MAKE FUN OF ME!” Iaco yelled
“Whoa, just calm down” suggested Corran Costi, as he took a step back palms open to the floor.
“You think you’re better than me?! You don’t talk to me for six months and once this sleaze shows up, now we’re best friends? I don’t think so!” shouts Iaco
In Power Control, Valara quietly moved across the room to the second set of controls. As she is about to shut down her last few modules a technician stopped in the middle of the room, yelling over to his boss.
“Does the frequency sound lower to you?”
“No! You always say that.” his boss replied, “Go get us more coffee! Move along! Move along!”
With that the technician just shrugged, continuing on his way. Valara sighed with relief and continued with her mission. The tone in the room slowly lowered another octave without the notice of those nearby.
Back at the office… Rebus and Naraana join R2-C4 and the Tenloss Boys as the little droid opened the vault door. Standing directly on the other side was a shocked Warden Gillion Both. Caught off guard by his new guests momentarily. His hands clutchin the Holocron. Furious, R2-C4 ran into Gillion‘s legs. Even though he wasn’t able to hurt the Ithorian, R2-C4 succeeded at blocking his way out asThe Tenloss Boys grabbed the warden forcing him into the corner of the room. Naraana confronts the alien, and grabbing the Holocron.
“What are you doing, you can’t take that!”
“Do you know how valuable that is? That is my ticket back into corporate life! What do you think you’re doing here anyway prisioners?
[:rebus-narcassan | Rebus]] displayed his fist in a threatening manner, as the warden tried attempted to regain possession of the Holcron . As Rebus grabbed the Warden, the alien produced a panic switch, pushing the button before anyone could react. The warden took a step back, yelling “GUARDS! GUAR—-”
Gillion choked on his last word as a sword emerged from the center of his chest. A figure shimmered into view, as Kith the Assassin deactivated her Memetic Suit.
“I’ve waited to do that for a very long time” she said, cleaning her blade, and sheathing it, “Now go get your stuff!”
Naraana slid in front of a computer console, attempting to slice into the prison defensive systems to activate any turrets that could defend them as gathered their belongings. She was frustrated to find another slicer tracking her moves and denying her access to specific systems. Not having the time to appropriately counter this new setback. she quickly activated the worm program she set up the night before. A series of noises came from inside the vault as bins moved into position and opened, allowing the group to collect their belongings. She got up, as her display tracked a ship heading for the station.
Back at the hanger Roark enters The Pecunia to stall Guy Arros and to hopefully hire him. The captain lead him into the cockpit telling the crew there to ready the ship as, the ChadraFan joined them. He calmly suggests Guy Arros can’t leave because his ship is horribly malfunctioning. After a moment Guy Arros became fully engrossed with the need to fix his ship. He ran around, opening grates and checking systems, convinced by the mind trick.
Outside the ship Valara finally emerged from Power Control, only to see Iaco and Corran fighting and Roark running into the ship with the ChadraFan following him. Looking as though Iaco is about to kill Corran, with Roark trying leave everyone behind. On her way to the ship, Valara grabbed a spanner from a nearby crate.
The last thing Iaco saw before being knocked to the ground was a spanner filling his vision.
As everyone left the vault armed and ready the entered the empty office. Kith the Assassin has once again vanished. Before the can can cross the space, three guards arrive, and blaster fire erupts from both sides filling the office with collateral damage. Naraana and Rebus dive for cover as fire is exchanged with Naraana hitting the fire suppression system. It explodes filling the space with a cloud of smoke. R2-C4 attempts to exit past the guards into the hall under the cover of smoke. The plan is foiled when a mouse droid passes R2-C4 and stops between him and the guards, letting out a shrill alarm. R2-C4 swiftly ejects a homemade mine from his dome before anyone can level a blaster at him. The soft device lands on top of the mouse droid muffling it’s alarm and immediately exploding. Two of the guards are immediately incapacitated and the third, wildly outnumbered, runs for backup.
Inside The Pecunia Guy Arros continues to search the ship for mechanical problems that don’t exist as Roark enters the cockpit. After a quick payoff, the bridge crew resumes their flight checks and begins plotting an hyperspace course.
Rebus, Naraana, and R2-C4 arrived in the hanger as another ship entered the large room on the far end It’s as large as the YT-1210 and distinctly Imperial, featuring two blade like wings, and a large Incom cockpit resembling its TIE brethren.
“RUN!” She yelled
As Rebus, Naraana and R2-C4 closed the distance, a ramp lowered from the Imperial ship, steam ejecting from the hull as a squad of stromtroopers deployed from the ramp and immediately shooting the freighter. A black cloaked figure who was both frightening and distinctly feminine emerged. Her face encased in a fearsome black helmet. Inquisitor Raith moved her cloak to one side and pulls her lightsaber off her belt and igniting it, holding the blade behind her. Roark could be overheard negotiating by way of loudspeaker.
Her mechanical voice demanding simply “Bring me the Holographic Chronicle”Roark continued to try to negotiate his legal authority of ownership, countering the demand until Raith raises her arm and closed the extending hand into a fist. The squelch of metal was heard as the speaker was crushed.
Rebus Naraana and R2-C4 quickly got aboard as prison guards also made their way into the hanger bay via the office hallway. The blast doors to Power Control closed as Valara helps Corran past her. As the ramp started to close, Iaco attempted one last push onboard, but was denied when Valara engaged him yet again. As the ship rose into the air Iaco fell back to the deck. He was seen blasting at the guards and Imperials only to fall as both groups concentrated fire on his chest.
With a powerful thrust The Pecunia escaped Stars End, ,stars streaking around the ship as it entered hyperspace.
